Trucksafe LIVE! | The intersection of driver recruiting and compliance

On a recent episode of our Trucksafe LIVE! podcast, we discussed the importance of proper vetting in the driver recruitment process. Jeremy Reymer, founder and CEO of Driver Reach, who'sbeen in the trucking industry for over 20 years, joined us to discuss this important topic.

Jeremy started his career in trucking running a successful driver staffing company and then moved on to establish DriverReach, a technology platform aimed at helping companies hire drivers faster and manage compliance better.

Jeremy emphasized the crucial role that the recruiting phase plays in attracting safe and compliant drivers. He discussed how technology has advanced in the trucking industry and the need for companies to keep up with these advancements to ensure a thorough and efficient recruitment process. He also touched on the challenges of dealing with traditional communication methods like fax machines, which are still a big part of the driver qualification process, but how things are starting to catch up with electronic logging devices and other exciting technology advancements.

The episode highlighted the consequences of not properly vetting driver applicants, including serious legal and financial issues. Jeremy stressed the need for companies to stay up-to-date with regulations and to have a well-defined process for verifying driver qualifications and checking their driving records.

The episode concluded with a discussion of the importance of fostering a positive experience for drivers when completing a DOT application. Jeremy explained that the experience doesn't have to be miserable for drivers or carriers. This is yet another area where it is crucial to leverage technology to make the process as rewarding as possible.

The DriverReach platform is one of many examples of how technology that can improve the driver onboarding experience. It has CRM functionality that can help companies manage their prospects, communicate with drivers and store information in the cloud. That said, Jeremy emphasized that although technology can enhance communication, it is still important to have direct personal conversations with drivers. A good first impression is key, and carriers should be open and transparent about what to expect from the process.

The episode also highlighted that carriers can often get it wrong by not aligning their messaging with who they say they are and not being consistent with the experience they provide. Drivers can research the company online, so it is crucial to make sure that their first impression is a positive one.

In conclusion, the episode of Trucksafe LIVE highlighted the importance of proper recruitment and the crucial role that technology plays in the process. Companies should aim to attract safe and compliant drivers by thoroughly verifying their qualifications and using technology to manage compliance effectively. Catch the replay below!
